Why track expiry dates?
You open the fridge and the milk went off yesterday. The cold medicine at the back of the cabinet expired last year. Nobody remembers when that sunscreen was bought. Things rarely spoil in front of you: they expire quietly, and you find out at the moment you need them. Writing the dates down is how you stop relying on memory.
It is not only about food shelf life. Milk and tofu in the fridge, dry goods and tins in the cupboard, painkillers and supplements in the medicine cabinet, the use-by window on opened cosmetics, even contact lens solution all run out on their own schedule. Fraidy keeps them in categories, so what is in the fridge and what is left in the medicine cabinet are one tap away.
Reminders arrive before something expires, while you still have time to use it up rather than throw it out. Anything running low goes on the to-buy list, you shop from it, and ticking an item off moves it straight into your inventory with a fresh expiry date. Common questions
- Is Fraidy free?
- Yes, free on both iOS and Android. A few ads keep it running. There is no paid subscription and no feature is locked behind one.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Tap "Browse first, sign up later" on the sign-in screen and use every feature straight away. Link an email, Google or Apple account later and your data is kept and starts syncing across devices.
- Can it track medicine and household items, not just food?
- Yes. Categories are fully editable and new households start with Food, Drinks, Household and Medicine. Opened cosmetics, supplements and cleaning supplies all fit, not just what is in the fridge.
- Does photo recognition upload my photos?
- By default recognition runs offline on your phone and the photo never leaves the device. Turning on "Cloud AI Recognition" in Settings sends it to our server for a more accurate read, and you can switch that off at any time.
- When do expiry reminders arrive?
- With reminders on, the app checks every morning and notifies you when an item comes within your chosen window (7 days before expiry by default, anywhere from 3 to 30 days), on the day itself, and once after it has expired. The in-app "Expiring Soon" list uses the same window.
- Can my family share one list?
- Yes. Create a household, and its owner or an admin generates a 6-character invite code, valid for 7 days and for one person (create one for each family member). Everyone in the household shares the inventory and to-buy list, and what others add, tick off or move to inventory shows up when you open the app, switch tabs or pull to refresh.
