How to add items in Fraidy: quick add, expiry dates and batches

Every item in Fraidy needs a name and an expiry date — that date is what your reminders are based on. Typing a name on the home screen is the fastest way in, and photo recognition can fill in the date for you too.
- 1 Type a name on Home and tap "+ Add Item"
- 2 Check the name, category and quantity, then tap "Expiry Date"
- 3 Pick the date and tap "Save" at the top right
- 4 The new item appears under "Just Added"
Where to add items
| Entry point | How it works |
|---|---|
| Home — “Quick Add” | Type the item name and tap ”+ Add Item”; the name is carried over |
| Home — “Quick Select” | Tap a category chip; the add screen opens with that category selected |
| Home — “Take Photo” / “Upload” | Photograph the package or pick a photo to fill in the name and expiry date — see how to use photo recognition |
| “Inventory” tab — ”+” at the top right | Opens a blank add screen |
| “Inventory” tab — a category card | Tap “Add Product” in the card; that category is preselected |
Items added these ways go straight into your inventory. For things you have not bought yet, use the shopping list instead.
Filling in the “Add Item” screen
The screen is split into sections:
- Photo Autofill — the card at the top. Tap “Take Photo” or “Upload” to fill in the name and expiry date automatically.
- Basic Info
- “Item Name” — required.
- “Category” — optional. The last option in the list, “Add Category”, lets you create a new one on the spot. Items without a category are grouped under “Uncategorized”.
- “Quantity” and “Unit” — 1 by default. The unit list currently shows Chinese words: 個 (piece), 瓶 (bottle), 盒 (box), 包 (pack), 杯 (cup), 條 (bar or stick), 把 (bunch), 公斤 (kg) and 公升 (litre).
- Date Info
- “Expiry Date” — required. Tap it to pick a date from the calendar.
- “Purchase Date” — optional.
- Note — optional, for example “refrigerate after opening”.
Tap “Save” at the top right. The new item appears under “Just Added” on the home screen and in the “Inventory” tab.

Bought another one? Use “Add Batch”
Staples like milk or toilet paper often get restocked before the old ones are used up, and the two lots expire on different days. You do not need a second item for that:
- Tap the item under “Just Added” on the home screen or in the “Inventory” tab to open “Item Details”.
- Tap “Add Batch” next to “Batch Management”.
- In the “Add Batch” window, enter the quantity and expiry date for this batch and tap “Confirm”.
Item Details shows the total quantity and how many batches are expiring soon, and each batch gets its own reminder.
Edit or delete an item
- Change the name, category or note — tap the pencil icon at the top right of Item Details, make your changes in “Edit Item” and save.
- Delete — tap “Delete Item” at the bottom of Item Details and confirm. This cannot be undone.
- Find an item — use the magnifying glass at the top right of the Inventory tab.
Habits that make reminders more useful
- Copy the expiry date exactly from the package. If it only shows a month, use the last day of that month.
- For things that keep for less time once opened, write the opening date in the note.
- Keep categories tidy so the Inventory tab shows at a glance which group is running out of time — see how to manage categories.
Common questions
- Do I have to enter an expiry date?
- Yes. When adding an item from the home screen or Inventory, both "Item Name" and "Expiry Date" are required; without a date you will see "Please select an expiry date". Expiry reminders are sent based on that date.
- How do I record the same product bought twice with different dates?
- Open the item's "Item Details", tap "Add Batch" next to "Batch Management", and enter the quantity and expiry date of the new batch. Each batch is counted and reminded about separately.
- Can I fix a wrong name or category?
- Yes. Tap the pencil icon at the top right of "Item Details" to open "Edit Item", where you can change the name, category and note.
- Do items added from the home screen appear on the shopping list?
- No. Items added from the home screen or Inventory go straight into your inventory. To put something on your shopping list first, add it from the "To Buy" tab.
