How to use the Fraidy shopping list: add, tick off, move to inventory

Published September 14, 2026 · Updated September 14, 2026 · By 絕招科技 Studio

The shopping list is for the trip to the shop; the inventory is for tracking dates once things are home. Keeping them apart means you never mistake something you still need to buy for something you already have.

See it in action
  1. 1 In "To Buy", tap "+", fill it in and save
  2. 2 Got it? Tap the checkbox on the left
  3. 3 Tap "Add to Inventory", pick the expiry date and confirm
  4. 4 The item moves to your inventory and reminders begin

Items added from the home screen or the “Inventory” tab go straight into your inventory. Items added from the “To Buy” tab only get there after you tick them off and add them to inventory.

1. Add what you need to buy

  1. Open the “To Buy” tab at the bottom.
  2. Tap ”+” at the top right to open “Add to Shopping List”.
  3. Fill in:
    • “Item Name” — required
    • “Category” — optional
    • “Quantity” and “Unit”
    • “Est. Price (optional)”
    • “Note” — for example “sugar-free” or “cheaper at the market”
  4. Tap “Save” at the top right.

The top of the list shows how many things are left to buy and, if you entered prices, an estimated total.

2. Tick it off when you have it

Once it is in your basket, tap the checkbox on the left of the item. The card is marked “Purchased”.

A tick cannot be undone. If you tick the wrong one, tap the card, choose “Remove from To-Buy List” and add it again.

3. Add it to your inventory at home

Purchased cards show an “Add to Inventory” button:

  1. Tap “Add to Inventory” to open a panel at the bottom.
  2. Choose the “Expiry Date”. Please do not skip this — without an expiry date you will not get any reminders.
  3. “Purchase Date” defaults to today; change it if you need to.
  4. Check the “Quantity” and “Unit”.
  5. Tap the “Add to Inventory” button at the bottom of the panel.

The item leaves the shopping list, appears in the “Inventory” tab, and you will be reminded based on its expiry date.

Edit or remove an entry

Tap the card itself (not the checkbox) to open “Edit To-Buy Item”:

  • Change the name, quantity, unit, estimated price or note and tap “Save Changes”.
  • If you no longer need it, tap “Remove from To-Buy List”.

The magnifying glass at the top right searches the list.

Shopping together

The shopping list belongs to your family group, so everyone in it sees the same list. Add “toilet paper” at home and whoever is at the shop sees it when they open the app or switch to the “To Buy” tab; once they tick it off, it shows as purchased on your phone after a refresh, so nobody buys it twice.

The list does not change on screen by itself. To pick up something a family member just changed, pull the list down to refresh.

For help with the expiry date when adding to inventory, see expiry date, shelf life and best before explained. To record things you already have at home, see how to add items.

Common questions

Do shopping-list items get expiry reminders?
No. Things on the shopping list have not been bought yet, so they have no expiry date. After ticking one off, tap "Add to Inventory" and enter an expiry date — only then does it move into your inventory and start getting reminders.
I ticked something off by mistake. What now?
A tick cannot be undone. If you have not actually bought it, tap the card to open "Edit To-Buy Item", choose "Remove from To-Buy List" and add it again.
Can my family use the same shopping list?
Yes. The shopping list belongs to the family group, so everyone in the group sees the same list. When someone adds or ticks off an item, you see it once you open the app, switch to the To Buy tab or pull the list down to refresh.
Do I have to enter a price?
No, "Est. Price (optional)" is optional. If you fill it in, the top of the list shows an estimated total for the trip.
